Pre-Course Reflection
Throughout my life I have found that writing and English class have never been the area in which I do the best. I would not consider myself a very poor writer but I feel that there is much room for improvement. I have decided to take this class because I feel that it will help me develop as a writer, which is a trait that, I feel, will be very beneficial in the future.
I have never really enjoyed writing anything because it is not something that is easy for me. Since it isn’t easy for me I don’t really enjoy doing it. This is also the reason I think that I am not a great writer because I find it more difficult to be good at something that you do not enjoy or feel passionately about. My most difficult work was probably when I was in elementary school. Every year we would have to write a story, and for three years straight I attempted to write the same exact story about when I got my dog. However every attempt was written worse and left out more of the story then the prior one. I think that the hardest aspect of essay writing is simply getting started, especially when the choice of topic is up to me. I also have trouble writing what I actually mean to say; many times my ideas aren’t conveyed very well in my essays.
The main reason that I decided to take this course was because my guidance counselor recommended it. Also I felt that it was the normal course that most kids would take. Now that some of my friends have taken it and given me feedback it has come to my attention that this will not be another boring English class where we read books and write essays. I am happy to have heard that, although it is very difficult and there is a lot of work, this is a very beneficial class that will help me to become a better writer. Although having many writing assignments seems like a daunting task for me I am going to do it anyway because it will be helpful in my development.

However since it must be done for almost everything in life I deemed it necessary to take this class in order to make writing in general easier for me. Even though I wouldn’t call myself a struggling writer I feel that this class will help me to become a good writer and more confident in what I write.
